At each stage of our creative process, we select a small number of worthy images from a much greater number of uninteresting images. Perhaps it is because pairing a visual and a tactile experience heightens the emotions we feel, but more likely, it is because the image has gone through the additional scrutiny to be selected out of many great images for the honor of print.
The connection I feel to an image on the printed page is far greater than the connection I feel to an image on a screen. When we take an image or a set of images out of the digital world and give them a physical form, we elevate their importance. I know it is easy and simple to set up a web page, or put your images on an iPad and call it a day, and that certainly serves its purpose, but there is something greater than images on a screen. I think the art of bookmaking has been forgotten by far too many photographers.
